Commemoration of the 65th anniversary of Operation Market Garden


September 13: 'Remember September': Liberation Festival
Liberation festival with colourful children’s market on the museum grounds with children’s activities, a circus and a musical programme for everyone. From 10.30 am-5 pm. It is also possible to join the Euregio Freedom Walk, a great walking tour covering the Market Garden area and a visit to the museum.

September 13: Cycling without a parachute
Bicycle-tour from 12-5 pm accompanied by Jan Willemsen through the landing areas of Operation Market Garden at Groesbeek. Length of tour 20 km. The tour will be preceeded by a short visit to the museum. Costs € 9,50.

September 15: Lecture about the victims in Nijmegen in WW2
Lecture by Bart Janssen about the victims in Nijmegen during WW2 focussing on their life-stories. Programme from 7.30-10 pm (reservations required).

September 16: Film Una Giornata Particulare 
A film about 'Love in war time'. Men, women and homosexuality in Italy during the fascist years starring Sophia Loren and Marcello Mastroianni, directed by Ettora Scola. The film will be preceeded by a short introduction and starts at 7.30 pm (reservations required).

September 16: Cycling without a parachute

September 17: Commemoration tour of the monuments in Groesbeek
Organized by the Airborne Friends Groesbeek. Programme from 10-12 am, starting at the church in Breedeweg.

September 17: Liberation concert at the HH Cosmas and Damianus Church in Groesbeek
Organized by the Groesbeek Mixed Choir and supported by the National Liberation Museum 1944-1945. Programme from 7.30-9 pm. For reservations please see Groesbeeks Gemengd Koor. The tickets are € 5.

September 17: Commemoration in Beek/Ubbergen                                                                                                                    
7 pm: Church service; 8 pm: Gathering at Liberation Monument: speeches, music, laying of wreaths/flowers.

September 18-20: The Liberation Museum 'on air'
Demonstration of war time transmitting and receiving equipment. Great show-pieces of communication devices of the 40's. Continual daily outdoor programme.

September 18: Veterans visit the Liberation Museum
A special visit to the museum by the veterans of the 'Market-Garden-Old-Comrades' starting at 3 pm.

September 18: Paratroopers land at Groesbeek
Para's jump from historical planes as they did in September 1944. The jump can be viewed from the museum and starts at 4 pm.

September 18: Great musical evening on the museum grounds
Among others Bill Baker's Big Band will be performing. This band specializes in the famous music from the 30's and 40's of the last century. Great names like Duke Ellington, Harry James, Tommy Dorsey, Benny Goodman, Glenn Miller and Count Basie will be presented in an exciting show. The men's choir 'the Kels' from Groesbeek will also be performing this evening. The programme starts at 8 pm. There is also a static show (Groene Groep) on the museum grounds with many historical military vehicles. Entry-fee EUR 10,- (reservations required).

September 19: Veterans hand over their regimental standards

Veterans of the 'Market Garden Veterans Association' present and hand over their regimental standards to the Liberation Museum, hereby marking the end of the existance of their regiments. More than a 100 British veterans and many guests will be present. Leaving their standards on the battlefield where they fought is very emotional for veterans. Our museum was chosen to preserve and present the standards for future generations. The programme starts at 11 am.

September 20: Commemoration and celebration in Nijmegen
1.30 pm: start Children's games at 10 locations in Nijmegen-Centre (Kelfkensbos). 
3.30 pm: on stage YES-R and presentation of the children's games' winning awards (Kelfkensbos).
4.30 pm: commemoration of the Liberation of Nijmegen on the Traianusplein and procession of historical vehicles.

The standard entry-fee is required for all events unless otherwise mentioned.

WW2 veterans have free admission.
