Liberation Festival & Children’s Flea Market

Sunday 18 September 2016, the annual Liberation Festival will once again be organised at the National Liberation Museum in Groesbeek. This year sees the 25th anniversary of the festival.

The Liberation Festival will be open throughout the day from 10:30 am - 4:30 pm with a colourful children’s flea market around the museum’s dome. Tickets are €3 per person (incl. museum entrance, festivities and parking). Entrance is free for children under 18. Museum Cards are valid.

Various musicians will perform live at the festival, including Big Band Let’s Swing from Delft, The Batavorum Pipes & Drums, The Sunshine Soldiers and bagpipe player Albert van Spierenburg. There will be all kinds of other activities as well, including a radio-controlled military model airplane show, a historical vehicle static show, a radio show with transmitting and receiving equipment from WWII, a second-hand book sale, living statues and, especially for the children’s entertainment, Clown Kiko. The 82nd Airborne Division will also pay a visit, while Evacuation Group Betuwe and Polish re-enactment group Jack of Diamonds will spectacularly bring the past to life.

And that is not all: battlefield tours in historical army vehicles provided by LiberationTour will leave from the Liberation Museum at 10 am, 11:30 am, 1:30 pm and 3 pm. These tours take 1.5 hours and cost €17.50 per person (including museum entrance, festivities and parking). Museum Cards are not valid for these tours. Reservations are required for battlefield tours.

The Euregio Vrijheidswandeling (EU Region Freedom Walk) will also take place on 18 September. This annual walking event focuses on walking in freedom and experiencing liberty, democracy and human rights. The freedom walk makes a stop at the Liberation Museum, so all participants are granted free admission to the museum. For more information, please visit

All visitors are welcome to use the free shuttle service of the ‘little wine train’ from and to the centre of Groesbeek, where all kinds of activities will take place as well, including the ‘Doe! Markt’ (Do! Market) on the town square.
