Liberation Festival & Children’s Flea Market 2017

The National Liberation Museum 1944-1945 in Groesbeek holds its yearly Liberation Festival with different fun activities on Sunday 17 September 2017.

The Liberation Festival will be open throughout the day from 10:30 am - 4:30 pm with a colourful children’s flea market around the museum’s dome. Tickets are €3 per person (incl. museum entrance, festivities and parking). Entrance is free for children under 18.

Various musicians will perform at the Liberation Festival, including Delta Swing Band, Pauwergirls, Murrayfield’s Regiment Pipes & Drums, The Cowpokes, accordionist Pieter Geijsberts and bagpiper Albert van Spierenburg. There will be a radio show with transmitting and receiving equipment from WWII, a second-hand book sale with various stalls and a radio-controlled military model airplane show. You can also take a look at vintage cars and the famous Bandritzer will be open, giving you a great photo opportunity.

The children’s activities include face painting and hula hoop workshops organised by Hoepeljuf. There are living statues on the museum grounds, as well as Evacuation Group Betuwe. Lively short lectures about various topics related to WWII will be held between 1 pm and 4 pm. There is also a professional panel where you can go for a substantive assessment of WWII objects (for example diaries). Special objects might feature later in Omroep Gelderland’s programme ´75 years of freedom’. If you bring an object for the panel, entrance to the festival is free (one person per object). The Euregio Vrijheidswandeling (EU Region Freedom Walk) also takes place on 17 September and goes straight through the museum.

Lastly, Grateful Generation Tours organises exciting fieldtrips in an authentic Willy’s MB from WWII (2 to 3 persons) along the Market Garden battlefields. The short 30-minute tours are fun for all ages, but a definite must for the youth. Costs: €7.50 pp, cash only, (€3 for festivities and museum entrance not included). Museum Cards are not valid. Tours take place every half hour from 10:30 am – 4:30 pm. Reservations can be made on the spot on the day of the festival.
