About us

From history came forth a modern museum, situated in Groesbeek between hills and woods and located on one of the most beautiful spots in the Netherlands (near Arnhem, Nijmegen and the German border). History is brought back to life again at the Liberation Museum 1944-1945.

Mission statement

The National Liberation Museum 1944-1945 is an historical museum covering the liberation of the Netherlands in 1944 and 1945, the events leading up to the liberation and the consequences thereof in a regional and international perspective. The museum not only commemorates, but also keeps the liberation story alive in a modern way and tries be a permanent reminder especially for young people, against fascism, discrimination and intolerance.
The museum is classified as a Registered Museum.

The ‘Stichting Nationaal Bevrijdingsmuseum 1944-1945’ has 5 full-time staff members assisted by 120 volunteers.
The daily management is in the hands of the director, drs. Wiel P.H. Lenders.
